The Society and Army sources document two related actions, at Petersburg on June 15 and New Market Heights on September 29, 1864. Canonical fields preserve the range. The Society uses 4th U.S. Colored Infantry, while the Army index and inherited record use 4th U.S. Colored Troops; both are retained.
