UNIFORM PODCAST

Real stories of military service, told by those who lived it

The People Behind America’s Military Story

Uniform: Stories of Service is the Dispatch: U.S. Military History Magazine series that turns the spotlight fully on the individual. Instead of focusing on campaigns, artifacts, or institutions, Uniform stays close to the veteran’s own experience—basic training, first units, long nights on duty, friendships, frustrations, and the small moments that never make it into official histories. Each conversation is a chance for someone who wore the uniform to tell, in their own words, what service looked and felt like from the inside.

Guests come from every branch, job, and era—combat arms and support, stateside and deployed, peacetime and wartime. Some episodes follow a single tour or defining assignment; others trace a path from enlistment to separation and beyond, pausing on the moments that still stand out years later. What matters is not rank or decorations, but honesty and detail: the sounds, routines, choices, and personalities that shaped a life in uniform and often still echo long after the DD-214 is signed.

Produced by Trackpads.com as part of the broader Dispatch ecosystem, Uniform is for anyone who believes that military history starts with the people who lived it. Episodes are recorded in a relaxed, conversational style and then shared across Trackpads.com, Dispatch, major podcast platforms, and YouTube to make them easy to find and share. If you served and have a story you’d like to preserve—whether it feels big or small—you’re invited to step up to the mic and add your voice to the growing archive.

Frequently asked questions

What is Uniform: Stories of Service?

Uniform: Stories of Service is a Trackpads.com podcast where veterans share what life was like in uniform, in their own words. Each conversation focuses on real experiences from training, day-to-day duties, deployments, and everything in between.

Who can be a guest on the podcast?

Any veteran or military civilian from any branch, component, job, or era is welcome. Combat service is not required—support roles, staff positions, and non-deployed careers are just as important to the story of military service.

Do I need to be a public speaker or have a “big” story?

No. You do not need media experience or a dramatic story. If you served, your experience matters. The tone is conversational, and the goal is to capture honest, everyday perspectives from real people.

How long is a typical recording session?

Most conversations run no more than 30 minutes. We schedule enough time so you do not feel rushed and can pause if you need a break.

What kinds of topics will we talk about?

We usually cover why you joined, training, your job, unit life, leadership, memorable moments, and anything else you want to share. You always control which topics are off limit

Can we talk about specific units, operations, or sensitive topics?

I always respect operational security and personal boundaries. You’re in control of what you share. If something feels sensitive, classified, or uncomfortable, you should leave it out or keep it at a high level. I am not the judge nor a reliable gatekeeper on what is or is not classified.

Can I bring artifacts, photos, or documents to discuss?

Absolutely. Artifacts and photos are a perfect fit. You can either show them on camera during the interview or send digital images ahead of time for potential inclusion in the supporting materials.

Where will my episode be published?

Your interview will be posted to the Trackpads YouTube channel and on LinkedIn. We will link your LinkedIn Profile if you have one; if not, we will notify you once it is posted. We are also going to make an effort to have an occasional feature on Dispatch with links to that week's | month's interviews.

Will I be notified when my episode goes live?

Yes. Once your episode is published, you’ll receive a notification and a direct link. We’ll also tag you on LinkedIn so you can easily share it with your network.

Can I get a copy or share the episode?

You’re encouraged to share the public link to your episode anywhere you like—on your website, social media, or with your community. If you need anything specific for your own use, just reach out, and we’ll do our best to help. I will provide small clips for you to share before the podcast goes live.
